We take a leisurely drive around the island with plenty of stops for flowers, birds, seals and spectacular island views. Time to learn something of mans continuous settlement over five thousand years.
However, since Rousay boasts more than 160 archaeological sites some selection is necessary!
We arrive at Midhowe Broch and Chambered Cairn at Lunchtime. The Broch and Cairn are two of the finest archaeological sites in Orkney, which lie close to the shore. They are only accessible on foot. You are strongly advised to wear good comfortable footwear.
After our visit to Midhowe there will be time to enjoy a picnic lunch before we head off to visit the Knowe of Yarso, Blackhammer cairn, and the two-storied Taversoe Tuick.
During the day we will also visit Saviskaill Bay to do a bit of seal spotting, and if we are extremely lucky you may see an otter or two! The drive around the island will also provided you with some spectacular scenery and on a clear day, a view of most of the other islands from the top of Sourin Brae.
After the tour I will drop you back at the Rousay Pier giving you the opportunity to explore the Rousay Heritage Center. Time permitting you can also visit at Trumland House Gardens (Admission £1.50*) so you can take a look around the grounds of this impressive former Laird's house.
Picnic hampers are available by pre-order only**
The menu choices are as follows:
